Smaller cuts, burns, tears can be repaired by the do-it-yourslf person when using the millennium mender kit.  It has detailed directions and all the materials and tools necessary to accomplish a complete repair, even a sample piece so a person can practice prior to doing the actual repair.  See various types of repair work on both vinyl and leather here.

try-it-out or do-it-yourself kit. in every kit: fixer tool, nine 1 oz. waterborne colorants, set of graining paper molds, sealer fabric, yellow hard pad, 1 oz. mixing jar, trowel knife, foam brush, practice piece, detailed directions. with vinyl: green pad, vinyl cleaner, vinyl-lok, teflon, screen-lok. with leather: grey pad, clear leather cleaner, leather-lok, leather mixing paper.
